The second World Journalism Education Congress will be held at Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa on July 5-7, 2010. The Congress will be run in conjunction with the 14th Highway Africa conference and will coincide with the 2010 Soccer World Cup hosted in South Africa. In nowadays societies, participation of the citizen in political and social life is seen as an important factor for development and has an impact on the quality of each individual’s life. Some media so far still lack an adequate respond to this. The audiences’ use of alternative contents rather than the traditional media can not only be explained by technology. Researchers and other participants of the conference are encouraged to investigate and discuss these topics.

The Department of Journalism of Boston University, USA and the Department of Communication, Media and Culture of the Panteion University, Greece in cooperation with the Regional Press Institute (http://www.rpi.gr) located in Crete is organising a summer workshop with an empasis on environmental and cultural issues.
The programme will take place on June 18-27, 2010 and is open to students of journalism and young professionals as well as to people who are interested in writing.
